Taipei Pokémon Center: A Plushie Paradise

Derek Morgan

Get ready, Pokémon fans! The highly anticipated Taipei Pokémon Center is set to open its doors in December, and it’s already generating a lot of buzz. With its vibrant green-themed store and dedicated sections for trading cards and other merchandise, this is a dream come true for Pokémon enthusiasts. And let’s not forget the awe-inspiring Dragonite and Pikachu statue that greets visitors in the Shinkong Mitsukoshi Mall lobby. It’s a sight to behold!

But while fans in Taipei and Singapore rejoice, many Westerners can’t help but wonder when they’ll get the same level of love from The Pokémon Company. It’s been over 20 years since the closure of the Pokémon store in New York, and the replacement at Nintendo New York just doesn’t live up to expectations. Fans have been longing for a dedicated Pokémon store experience, both online and offline.

Online services also leave much to be desired, with limited availability in certain countries. While customers in the United States and the United Kingdom can order from Pokémon Centers worldwide, others like Australia are left out. The demand for a Pokémon Center in Australia or at least shipping options is high, as expressed by popular Pokémon UNITE creator Kelosaurus.

However, there is hope on the horizon. The opening of two Pokémon Centers outside of Japan within five years suggests that more may be on the way. Pop-up stores in London and Paris have also been a hit, with stock shortages due to their overwhelming popularity. Perhaps we can expect some exciting news about future Pokémon Centers as the franchise celebrates its 30th birthday.
