Magnum to Join Karmine Corp: A New Beginning for the Former Fnatic Star

Tim Price

Former Fnatic and Apeks player, Martin “Magnum” Peňkov, has reportedly agreed to join the French EMEA team, Karmine Corp. This marks Karmine Corp’s first signing of the 2023-24 off-season as they aim to bounce back from a disappointing 2023 campaign.

Magnum, known for his exceptional skills, joined Fnatic in 2021 alongside Nikita “Derke” Sirmitev. Together, they achieved great success, including winning Stage Two Challengers Two in 2021 and reaching the top of EMEA. However, as time went on, Fnatic struggled against other top EMEA teams, leading to Magnum being moved to the inactive roster and eventually leaving the team.

Due to his impressive performances on both Fnatic and Apeks, Magnum became a highly sought-after player by various VCT teams in EMEA and even in other regions. Rumors circulated that KOI was interested in adding him to their roster, but it seems Magnum has chosen to join Karmine Corp.

During his time with Apeks, Magnum helped the team reach the EMEA Ascension finals, although they were ultimately defeated by French organization Gentle Mates. Despite this, Magnum showcased his skills and finished the tournament with impressive stats, particularly his KAST percentage, which ranked in the top 10 across all players in EMEA Ascension.

Karmine Corp had a challenging 2023 season, with frequent changes in the IGL role, a mid-season departure, and a final record of 2-7. Additionally, their star player, Adil “ScreaM” Benrlitom, left the team. In an effort to improve their VALORANT roster for 2024, Karmine Corp is seeking stability and a player who has proven themselves in tier-one play. Magnum’s versatility as a Sentinel or Controller makes him a valuable addition to the team.

By joining Karmine Corp, Magnum not only brings his skills but also contributes to the team’s goal of rebounding and proving their critics wrong. With a dedicated fanbase, Karmine Corp is determined to make a fresh start and establish themselves as a formidable force in the VALORANT scene.
