Valve Takes Action Against Cheaters in Counter-Strike 2

Derek Morgan

Valve has answered our pleas and made a significant update to Counter-Strike 2 on Sept. 27, focusing on combating cheating in the game. The update includes various changes such as new settings, a store, and an improved community server browser. However, the most crucial change is the introduction of measures to tackle cheaters.

The matchmaking update is the standout feature of the Sept. 27 update. Now, if any party members are caught cheating, their “associates” will face penalties, including the loss of Profile Rank and CS Rating. Additionally, players with a high CS Rating in Premier mode cannot team up with accounts that do not have an established CS Rating, aiming to prevent cheating.

While it remains unclear what exactly “associates” refers to, it is likely that these are players who regularly queue with cheaters, benefiting from their assistance to boost their matchmaking ranking.

During the limited beta, many top players on leaderboards were found to be queuing with known cheaters. This change should assist Valve in combating hackers, at least to some extent.

Players are hailing this update as the most significant one in the latest patch notes. They believe it is a positive step towards creating a cheater-free environment in CS2, or at least an attempt to do so.

While the full release of CS2 brought numerous tweaks, players have also been discussing other aspects of the game. Notably, CS:GO legend s1mple criticized the game’s poor tick rate performance, while others have praised it thus far.
