The recent launch of Counter-Strike 2 has brought about several changes to the game, with one particular update potentially revolutionizing how certain bombsites are played. The new Smoke Grenade mechanics in CS2 now allow for smoke to spread in all directions, including downwards when set off on a ledge or similar surface. This opens up exciting opportunities for players to create advantageous angles.
Content creator austincsgo highlighted this game-changing feature, demonstrating how a Smoke Grenade can be thrown onto the edge of the A side Balcony on Mirage. When detonated, it obstructs the vision of CTs positioned on Stairs or Jungle, while still allowing Terrorists exiting the Palace to catch a glimpse of the A side and CT Spawn.
austincsgo also shared a video tutorial on how to throw the Smoke Grenade from Top Mid on Mirage. This makes it easier for a group of Terrorists to execute the strategy and gain control of the A side. While we haven’t personally tested it yet, we’re eager to try it out in our next Mirage game in CS2.
This significant change has the potential to greatly impact various positions in CS2, such as Vertigo’s B side Stairs or A side Ramp, Overpass’ Heaven, Nuke’s Heaven, and Silo. As professional players transition to CS2, we can expect to see more innovative Smoke Grenade strategies being developed.
Currently, ESL Pro League Season 18 and BLAST Fall Showdown 2023 are still being played in CS:GO, so it may take some time before the pro scene fully embraces CS2. However, once they do, we anticipate an influx of creative and effective Smoke Grenade tactics.
