In the latest DLC campaign mission, Lucretia My Reflection, players of Cyberpunk 2077 can now find themselves locked out of Solomon Reed’s quests. If the protagonist, V, chooses to respond negatively to Reed’s question, “Is it worth it?”, by saying, “Know what, Reed? You’re right. Somethin’ real wonky ’bout this. I’m out,” they will fail the DLC campaign. Even if given one more chance to continue, selecting the option “Made my decision” will result in the same outcome.
Unfortunately, if this happens, the only way to play the DLC campaign is to either load an earlier save or start a new game with a different character. It is advisable to save frequently to avoid such situations. However, players can still enjoy side quests, gigs, and explore Dog Town without any restrictions.
Interestingly, this is the second known way to fail the DLC campaign. The first involves not reaching President Rosalind Myers’ crashed plane quickly enough during the mission. If players are slow or get lost, they receive a call from Songbird informing them that they have effectively caused the President’s death. Johnny dismisses her fate, and the game continues.
It is commendable that CD Projekt Red allows players to experience the consequences of their choices in the DLC story. In an era where most games cater to player preferences and adapt the world accordingly, it is refreshing to see a game embrace failure as part of the narrative.
The release of the Phantom Liberty DLC, along with Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.0 update, has significantly improved the game’s reputation. This is an opportune time for newcomers to dive into the game, as major systems such as perks, combat, enemy AI, police mechanics, and driving have been reworked. While it may not fully deliver on its initial promises, CDPR can take pride in the progress made.
