The cancellation of the highly anticipated game, Hyenas, has left both the studio and fans in shock. The decision to cancel the game was not taken lightly, but this does not make it any easier for the team at Hyenas or the grieving fans.
Hyenas, a unique extraction shooter featuring SEGA properties like Sonic, was first announced in June 2022. With its release originally scheduled for 2023, fans were eagerly awaiting its arrival.
However, this morning’s news revealed that not only Hyenas but also other unannounced projects have been cancelled by SEGA. This unfortunate turn of events will likely result in job cuts at Creative Assembly, the team behind Hyenas, as well as across SEGA’s European teams.
SEGA is expected to face losses of approximately 14.2 billion yen for the current fiscal year due to this decision. Despite this setback, SEGA fans can still look forward to a range of exciting titles, including Persona 3 Reloaded in Feb. 2024 and Sonic Superstars on Oct. 20, developed by the main SEGA team.
Dot Esports has reached out to SEGA for further comment on this matter.
