Marvel Snap’s Latest Update: Big Changes to Galactus and Kitty Pryde

Tim Price

Marvel Snap has just released its newest OTA patch, and it’s packed with game-changing updates that will have an immediate impact on gameplay. The most significant changes in this update are nerfs to two popular cards, Galactus and Kitty Pryde. Galactus now costs six and has a power of five, while Kitty Pryde costs one and has zero power.

The reason for Galactus’ nerf is the introduction of the new Loki for All Time season card, Alioth. Second Dinner, the developers, anticipated that Alioth would quickly find a place in Galactus decks. While this wasn’t a problem in itself, they didn’t want exciting new cards like Alioth to be overshadowed by existing cards, especially Galactus. The developers had reworked Galactus to have more control, and his metrics spiked outside of their acceptable range for over a week. Therefore, they decided to make a harder line change to bring Galactus back to his target performance range.

Kitty Pryde, on the other hand, will still retain her ability to gain power after each turn she’s played when she returns to the player’s hand. However, her starting power has been reduced by two, making her less prevalent in decks where she isn’t paired with Angela. Second Dinner wants to give other cards a chance to compete with Kitty Pryde, as she has been a dominant force in the metagame multiple times. This change is preemptive, as they believe Kitty would be too strong in October without it.

In addition to these nerfs, three other cards are being adjusted in the OTA patch. Squirrel Girl and Psylocke are both receiving one-power buffs, making them more formidable in gameplay. Snowguard’s Hawk and Bear, which have seen a resurgence in the meta, are also being changed. Snowguard Hawk’s cost is increasing from two to three, while Snowguard Bear’s cost and power are both increasing to three and four respectively.

The developers are pleased with Snowguard’s rework, but they have noticed that her strength lies in synergy with Loki and The Collector, where the extra cards she generates are the primary reward. The auroras, which are secondary, don’t need to be as efficient in this case. The Bear is gaining more power because his effect has proven to be weaker compared to the auroras.

This Snowguard change is just the beginning of a series of adjustments that will be implemented in the next week’s patch. The developers aim to shift the cost and power of several small cards that add cards to your hand, providing a more diverse range of enticing options for different playstyles and goals.

The new season of Marvel Snap begins on Monday, Oct. 2, at 10pm CT. For the full list of notes from today’s update, you can visit the game’s official website.
