Players of the popular RPG game Starfield have noticed a significant change in the behavior of their companions after getting married, and it’s not sitting well with fans.
In Starfield, players have the option to romance their closest companion and eventually marry them by gaining favorability through aligned actions. However, once the marriage takes place, companions become overly sexual and lose their previous sweet and romantic demeanor.
Married companions in Starfield exhibit a noticeable shift in dialogue, with almost every option having a sexual undertone. This behavior extends beyond the bedroom, as they make explicit comments in front of other crew members, leading to awkward situations.
Some players have even jokingly speculated that Sam Coe, one of the companions, may be the father of most of the children seen in the game, as they bear a striking resemblance to Cora, his daughter introduced early on. This has led to theories that companions are focused on increasing the human population in the galaxy now that they have a lifelong partner.
While some players find the change amusing or even desirable, many others long for the return of their pre-marriage companions’ sweet and romantic nature.
Comparisons have been drawn to other RPGs, such as Baldur’s Gate 3, where companions display even more explicit behavior. However, the majority of Starfield fans express their dissatisfaction with the drastic shift in companions’ behavior after marriage.
It remains to be seen whether Bethesda, the game’s developer, will address these concerns and make adjustments to the game. In the meantime, players may choose to avoid certain dialogue options or simply look away during intimate moments.
