Pokémon and virtual singer Hatsune Miku have joined forces to create a new official song, and the result is rather terrifying. The collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Hatsune Miku has already featured artwork depicting the virtual singer as a trainer for each Pokémon type. Now, they have released their first music piece titled “Volt Tackle,” with DECO*27 as the Vocaloid artist. However, this song may give both children and adults nightmares.
The music begins with the familiar sounds from Pokémon Red and Blue, which is quite enjoyable. But then, a remixed version of the tune that played when encountering a wild Pokémon starts, and things take a bizarre turn. The lyrics include strange phrases like “jealousy candy does not taste good” and “chu chu chu’s just won’t stop,” which may remind some of Thomas the Tank Engine rather than Pikachu.
The lyrics continue with references to a “Volt Tackle” aimed at the “middle of your heart,” which sounds rather alarming. Then, it takes an even stranger twist with the mention of “wanchu.” The genre of this music is difficult to determine, and it all seems a bit weird. However, it’s important to note that I may not be the target audience for this song.
In comparison, the previous music crossover with Ed Sheeran prior to the release of Scarlet and Violet was brilliant. Although the lyrics didn’t directly reference Pokémon, the music video was fantastic, and the song itself was strong.
This collaboration between Pokémon and Hatsune Miku will produce 17 more songs, so we can expect either improvement or more unsettling surprises leading up to Halloween.
