CS2 players using AMD graphics cards are facing frustrating game stutters following recent driver updates. Since the game’s launch on September 27, numerous players have reported issues such as sudden freezes and teleportation delays. Enemies also appear out of nowhere after moments of silence. These problems stem from shader compilation.
The problem is quite straightforward: CS2 does not preload shaders, resulting in real-time rendering that causes a disconnect between the game’s actions and what players see on their screens. Unfortunately, there is no immediate solution to this issue. However, players can mitigate the problem by exploring practice servers with all weapons and grenades on every map, which forces the game to compile all shaders before entering a competitive match.
No one expected CS2 to have a flawless launch. CS:GO, for instance, underwent years of development and multiple updates before becoming the smooth and polished game it is today. With CS2 introducing new elements like enhanced graphics and volumetric smoke grenades, along with a new engine, technical difficulties were bound to arise.
In the months and years ahead, CS2 is likely to evolve into a refined and seamless experience, similar to CS:GO in its later stages. However, until then, players using AMD graphics cards who desire a smoother gameplay experience will need to manually load their shaders.
