Asmongold, a popular streamer, has given his verdict on Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield, stating that the former surpasses the latter in every aspect. Despite its initial bugs, Cyberpunk 2077 has received critical acclaim due to CD Projekt RED’s relentless efforts. On the other hand, Starfield failed to impress Asmongold, and he believes that no amount of patches or added content can save it.
According to Asmongold, there is a distinction between a game that is buggy and a game that is simply bad. He argues that while Cyberpunk 2077 had its issues at launch, its core was solid. However, Starfield’s problems run much deeper. Asmongold highlights two major issues: repetitive content with monotonous monsters, areas, loot, and combat, and a poorly designed map that hinders gameplay. These issues contradict Starfield’s promise of vastness and depth.
Asmongold’s sentiments are echoed by other gamers as well. Starfield initially received positive reviews but gradually declined to mixed reviews and eventually became Bethesda’s worst-rated title on Steam, which was unexpected at launch.
The disappointment with Starfield was so profound for Asmongold that he contemplated abandoning single-player story-driven titles altogether. However, Cyberpunk 2077 reignited his passion for such games. He praises its gritty, cinematic essence and was pleasantly surprised by its overall quality from start to finish.
While Bethesda did not mishandle Starfield’s launch, the game is struggling to live up to the hype as time goes on. In contrast, CD Projekt Red demonstrated the potential for post-launch revival with Cyberpunk 2077. Asmongold remains skeptical about Bethesda achieving a similar feat with Starfield.
