The first candidate for Minecraft’s 2023 installment of the mob vote has been unveiled, and it has left the community feeling massively let down. Mojang presents three different mobs each year for players to vote on, with the winning mob being permanently added to the game in a later update.
Past mob votes have introduced exciting new creatures like the Allay or the Sniffer, making the simple crab seem underwhelming in comparison. Many players find the crab to be “utterly useless” and not deserving of a mob vote. The previous mobs chosen were much more impressive, making the crab appear dull and uninteresting.
Despite its basic nature, the crab does bring a unique feature to Minecraft if it is voted in. Players will have the ability to obtain and use the crab’s massive claw to place blocks beyond their regular reach, which could be incredibly useful for building and potentially even combat.
If the crab is chosen, it will be found in the mangrove swamp biome, as crabs are an integral part of this ecosystem. However, players are disappointed that crabs will not appear on the beach and that the mangrove swamp biome is quite rare.
Players are particularly frustrated with the crab being the first candidate because it seems to confirm the leaked list of other possible mobs, including a seagull and a jellyfish. None of these creatures are as exciting as past contenders, which were all unique creations specifically designed for the mob vote.
The leak suggests that all three contenders for the 2023 mob vote will be real-world animals rather than imaginative new creatures. This disappoints players, as Minecraft’s collection of unique mobs is one of the game’s most beloved features.
The mob vote for Minecraft’s 2023 event will begin on October 13th, allowing players to decide whether the crab or another mob will be added permanently after the vote concludes.
