Doctor Who Universes Beyond: New MTG Commander Precons Spoilers

Xavier Ward

The Sixth Doctor and Peri Brown: A Powerful Combo for Historic Spells

Get ready for the release of the Doctor Who Universes Beyond set on Oct. 13, which includes four MTG Commander preconstructed decks. One of these decks, called Blast from the Past, features the first eight Doctors and their companions. In this deck, the Sixth Doctor and his companion Peri Brown shine with their abilities that support Historic spells.

The Sixth Doctor, a Legendary Creature—Time Lord Doctor, has a high casting cost of 4GU but is definitely worth it in the right Commander deck. With a 3/3 stat line, his Time Lord’s Prerogative ability triggers whenever you cast a Historic spell, allowing you to copy it. The best part is that the copy isn’t Legendary, meaning you can duplicate another Doctor or a powerful Legendary card that can potentially win the game on its own.

To make it even better, Peri Brown, a Legendary Creature—Human, serves as the Doctor’s Companion and helps ramp out big Legendaries for the Sixth Doctor. With a casting cost of 3W and a 2/3 stat line, Peri Brown’s ability grants Convoke to the first Historic spell you cast each turn. This means you can tap creatures to generate mana towards casting a creature spell, providing consistent and reliable ramp for your deck.

When playing with Peri Brown as your commander, it’s important to strategize and make the most of the Convoke ability, as it only applies to the first Historic spell cast each turn. While it may not be as fast as using mana dorks, the ramp provided by Peri Brown is more consistent and can greatly benefit your deck when paired with the Sixth Doctor.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to test out the powerful combo of the Sixth Doctor and Peri Brown in your Historic matters deck when the MTG Doctor Who Universes Beyond set launches on Oct. 13.
