Popular streamer Gothalion claims to have received an email from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, requesting his help in identifying channels that embed their streams on game wikis. This controversial practice involves artificially inflating view counts by streaming content on wiki pages, without viewers actually tuning in.
One of the main culprits in this controversy is FextraLife, who has been called out by multiple streamers including Gothalion, Moistcr1tikal, Ludwig, and Asmongold. Suspicion arose when channels with over 50,000 viewers had significantly fewer participants in their chat. Ludwig discovered that FextraLife’s stream had 60,000 viewers, but the number of chatters was only half of that over the same period.
To identify if a stream is embedded on a game’s wiki, one can simply check the Twitch chat. This discovery prompted Twitch to take action against these deceptive tactics until a long-term solution is implemented. Gothalion has been actively exposing such offenders on Twitter, lending credibility to the authenticity of the email he received.
