Blizzard has announced updates to Route 66 in Overwatch 2 to address the issue of spawn-camping. The changes aim to provide more cover for attackers and give defenders new angles to hold and fight from.
The Panorama Diner, a familiar location on Route 66, will have a new sign positioned on its patio to offer additional cover for attackers. This will prevent enemy snipers from easily picking off unsuspecting supports from the high ground.
Another change will be made to the second point, where the doors will no longer fully close behind the payload after passing the first checkpoint. This adjustment will give attackers more cover during their push.
Defenders will also benefit from the updates, particularly on the last checkpoint in the Deadlock Gang’s hideout. Shifting cargo will create new angles for defenders to hold and fight from, adding more strategic options.
Route 66 has been known for its snowball-y nature, where a strong start often leads to a dominant performance. However, these updates in season seven of Overwatch 2 aim to level the playing field and allow teams to mount comebacks even when things don’t initially go their way.
The changes will be implemented in season seven, which is set to begin on October 10th.
