Bungie is making changes to the Exotic focusing system in Destiny 2, reducing the costs and making it more accessible for players. The update, set to go live on Oct. 17, will eliminate the need for Exotic Ciphers in tier two focusing and reduce the amount of Ascendant materials required. These changes aim to address the high prices that were discouraging players from engaging with the system.
The Economy team at Bungie acknowledged that the steep prices were deterring many players from utilizing Exotic focusing. They found that most players were only earning a few Ascendant Shards per week, making it difficult for them to engage with the system regularly. Currently, tier two focusing requires three Ascendant Shards per armor piece, which is unattainable for many players.
To make Exotic focusing more accessible, Bungie is implementing a three-pronged approach. Firstly, they are removing Exotic Ciphers as part of the cost for tier two focusing. The slow rate at which players can earn Exotic Ciphers goes against the goal of providing easily accessible rewards. Secondly, the cost of Ascendant Shards is being reduced. Tier two focusing will now require two Ascendant Shards per armor piece, while tier one focusing will no longer have an Ascendant Shard cost based on player feedback. Lastly, the cost of tier one focusing will be changed from one Shard to ten Enhancement Prisms, providing players with more meaningful ways to spend their Enhancement Prisms.
Here are the updated prices for Exotic focusing:
Tier | Old Price | New Price |
---|---|---|
Tier one focus | 30,000 Glimmer and one Ascendant Shard | 30,000 Glimmer and 10 Enhancement Prisms |
Tier two focus | 60,000 Glimmer, three Ascendant Shards, and one Exotic Cipher | 60,000 Glimmer and two Ascendant Shards |
These changes significantly improve the accessibility of the Exotic focusing system. While tier two focusing still comes at a cost, it is now more realistic for players to engage with the decryption process regularly. The update will be implemented on Oct. 17 alongside the mid-season update.
