Ogerpon, a new Pokémon introduced in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, has the ability to change forms, masks, and even its attack animations. This adds a refreshing twist to the usual recycled content found in Pokémon games.
In Pokémon games, it’s common to see the same Pokémon noises, models, and moves being reused. However, Ogerpon breaks this pattern by offering unique attack animations based on its masks.
One notable example is Ogerpon’s Ivy Cudgel move, which changes in color, shape, and damage type depending on the mask it wears. Other moves also have their own distinct animations.
For instance, Ogerpon’s Level 54 move, Power Whip, showcases different animations based on its mask:
- Teal Mask: Ogerpon flips and presses its whips on the ground.
- Cornerstone Mask: Ogerpon hops while pressing its vines.
- Wellspring Mask: Ogerpon spins quickly and switches its vines to the side.
- Hearthflame Mask: Ogerpon hops and points its vines directly at the opponent.
While these variations may seem minor, they add depth and liveliness to the Pokémon. It’s encouraging to see the Pokémon Company putting more effort into making their creatures feel more dynamic. Hopefully, future updates and games will continue to introduce unique animations.
Additionally, it would be great to see some new Pokémon sound effects in the future, further enhancing the overall experience.
