In a livestream, he called out multiplayer developers and publishers for prioritizing these aspects over improving gameplay and adding core elements.
Dr Disrespect, known for his bold persona, stated that the current state of video games is not what he grew up with. He believes that the culture of gaming has been lost and needs to be rediscovered. He questioned why gaming companies are investing significant amounts of money in high-production video pieces for cosmetic items instead of enhancing the overall gaming experience.
The Doc acknowledged that certain elements of the gaming industry are thriving, particularly single-player games, especially in the RPG genre with titles like Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3. He believes that these genres are compensating for the flaws that have emerged from multiplayer titles focused heavily on microtransactions.
However, Dr Disrespect faced criticism for his comments due to his own involvement in the microtransaction scheme. His game, Deadrop, was primarily funded through NFTs and blockchain images, which attracted attention but also led to financial losses for many investors. Critics pointed out the hypocrisy of his stance, as he had previously defended the use of NFTs and claimed they wouldn’t make his game pay-to-win.
Despite the backlash, Dr Disrespect has not changed his stance on using microtransactions as a source of income. While his criticism of the gaming industry may resonate with some, it is important to note his involvement with NFTs and cryptocurrency.
