Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that Alan Wake 2 will feature a performance mode for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. This mode will primarily run at 60 frames per second (FPS), providing a smoother gaming experience for players. However, it should be noted that the game was originally designed as a 30 FPS experience, so the performance mode is an added bonus rather than the default setting.
In order to achieve the higher frame rate, the development team had to make some sacrifices. They had to cut back on memory usage, which was a challenging and painstaking process. Despite these efforts, it is important to manage expectations as the game may not consistently maintain a stable 60 FPS, especially during certain sections like the Dark Place.
It is worth mentioning that the performance mode will not be available on the Xbox Series S console. The team has focused heavily on optimizing the game for other platforms, but unfortunately, the Series S did not make the cut for this particular feature.
While players have the option to use the performance mode, it is important to note that the game was built with a solid 30 FPS experience in mind. The main focus of the development team has been to ensure a rock-solid 30 FPS performance throughout the game.
Alan Wake 2 is set to release on October 27 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players can look forward to a dedicated performance mode on consoles, although the consistency and reliability of the 60 FPS experience may vary.
