Óscar “mixwell” Cañellas, a former Counter-Strike player and one of the first VALORANT title winners, has made the decision to step away from competitive gaming.
Mixwell, known for his success in CS: Source and CS:GO, achieved notable victories while playing for OpTic Gaming, including winning ELEAGUE Season 2 and finishing first in ESL Pro League’s sixth season in North America. He later joined G2 and Cloud9 before transitioning to VALORANT in 2020.
In VALORANT, mixwell had early success with G2, winning tournaments like Red Bull Homeground and the BLAST Twitch Invitational. However, the team’s performance declined over time, leading mixwell to join Team Heretics in 2022.
Despite some disappointing results towards the end of his career, mixwell played a crucial role in establishing a strong European VALORANT scene. He received an outpouring of support upon announcing his retirement, with Giants Gaming and G2 expressing their gratitude and admiration for his contributions to the esports community.
Mixwell’s legacy extends beyond his in-game achievements. He is beloved by the OpTic Gaming Green Wall fanbase and has left a lasting impact on the esports industry through his actions both inside and outside of the server.
While mixwell’s competitive journey may have come to an end, his influence and legacy will continue to inspire future generations of gamers.
