Gamers Disappointed as Overwatch 2’s PvE Missions Fail to Attract Players

Gamers are expressing their frustration with Overwatch 2’s long-awaited PvE missions, as lobbies remain empty and bots replace players. Despite the passage of time, players continue to experience lengthy queue times.

The Invasion story missions were introduced in season six of Overwatch 2 but failed to retain players’ interest. Now, just one season later, it has become evident that one of the main issues is the unpopularity of the Invasion and PvE lobbies.

Players have criticized Blizzard for the lack of activity in these mission modes. The primary reason behind their decline, according to Overwatch 2 players, is the lack of replay value, exacerbated by the limited selection of only three missions.

Furthermore, players argue that the story missions in Overwatch 2 fail to capture the essence of what makes a co-op game enjoyable. The appeal of replaying a game lies in the ability to have a new experience each time, and Overwatch 2’s story missions fall short in this regard.

Adding to the disappointment, the Overwatch 2 community points out that fan-made maps easily rival Blizzard’s attempt at PvE, and these maps are available for free. The $15 USD price tag for the three missions has been a significant issue, and players suggest that the paywall within a free-to-play title also contributes to the lack of player engagement.

Some gamers believe that changes made to the PvE mode in early 2023 further contributed to the dissatisfaction. The original plan for Overwatch 2’s missions was a fully-fledged, free campaign experience, but after numerous delays, the initial vision was abandoned. This led to calls for boycotts and widespread disappointment among gamers worldwide.

Although a version of the promised PvE gameplay eventually arrived, it failed to meet the expectations set by Blizzard prior to Overwatch 2’s release.
