A player named illbebahk recently shared their reasoning for choosing to raid the Emerald Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3, despite it being considered the morally wrong option. Instead of simply being evil, they decided to follow the Dark Urge storyline and focused on removing the tadpole. In order to achieve this, they needed to find a passage to Moonrise Towers and ultimately sided with Minthara.
illbebahk explained that their decision was driven by their dedication to roleplaying. They believed that in order to pursue their goal of removing the tadpole, they had no choice but to assist Minthara in raiding the Emerald Grove. While most players avoid this path due to the negative consequences and moral implications, illbebahk felt it was justified in the context of their roleplaying experience.
By deviating from the typical path and embracing the Dark Urge storyline, illbebahk’s playthrough took a unique turn. They acknowledged that their decision could lead to their companions leaving them and that raiding the Grove meant slaughtering innocent Tieflings, which is morally objectionable. However, they believed that staying true to their character’s motivations outweighed these concerns.
While this approach may not align with the choices made by the majority of players, it highlights the depth of roleplaying possibilities in Baldur’s Gate 3. By fully immersing themselves in their character’s perspective and goals, illbebahk found justification for their controversial decision.
