OG Announces Major Roster Changes Ahead of The International 2023

Derek Morgan

OG, one of the top Dota 2 teams, is undergoing a significant overhaul of its roster as it prepares for The International 2023. This decision comes after OG failed to qualify for the prestigious tournament for the first time since its establishment in 2015.

In a series of Tweets on October 12, OG confirmed the release of DM and Taiga, whose contracts with the team had expired. Both players had been moved to the inactive roster earlier in the season due to their underwhelming performances.

Taiga’s position on OG had been questioned multiple times, with rumors and a sudden break disrupting the team during the DPC’s Summer Tour. He was eventually placed on the inactive roster on August 1 and joined Wildcard Gaming during the North American TI12 Qualifiers, where the team finished fourth.

After two incredible years together, we bid farewell to @Taigadota as our collaboration comes to an end. Thank you for all the amazing adventures, Papa Tommy ❤️

DM, on the other hand, was benched on September 14 after OG’s disappointing fifth-place finish in the TI12 WEU Qualifiers, marking the end of the team’s season.

We also say goodbye to our friend @DJMike, as his contract has come to an end. It has been an incredible journey, and we appreciate everything, brother ✊

During DreamLeague Season 21, OG enlisted MinD_ContRoL as a stand-in offlaner alongside Yuragi, bzm, and the newly added Kitrak. However, OG’s roster now consists of only these four players, as Ceb, who had previously retired but returned, joins Team SMG in Seattle for a shot at the Aegis.

The removal of DM and Taiga does not reveal OG’s future plans for its Dota roster in the 2024 season, as both players were already inactive. There may still be further changes to come, but it is evident that the original experiment without n0tail from 2021 is over, except for Yuragi and bzm if they decide to stay. Kitrak might also secure a permanent spot on the team, given his strong performance during the TI qualifiers alongside Ceb.

The biggest question remains whether Ceb will continue as a full-time player with OG or if this truly was his “last ride” for the team. More information is likely to emerge after the conclusion of TI12 on October 29, when the post-TI roster shuffle commences for the next season.
