Destiny 2 players who experienced the crafting bug in September will be rewarded with a unique emblem in the upcoming season 23. Bungie plans to release the emblem at the end of November as a homage to the chaotic weekend when the bug occurred.
The emblem will be available to all players who logged into the game between September 15th at 11am CT and September 21st at 12pm CT, which was the period when the game-breaking bug was most prevalent.
The crafting bug gained popularity rapidly on September 15th, causing weapons in Trials of Osiris to fire multiple pellets per shot. This made the game almost impossible to win. However, players quickly caught wind of the glitch and started using it to their advantage.
Initially, some players were hesitant to exploit the bug due to fears of being banned. However, Bungie soon clarified that players who discovered the exploit would not face any in-game restrictions or bans. The use of external scripting and network manipulation tools, however, remained bannable offenses.
The glitch allowed players to fuse different aspects of one crafted weapon into another gun by being faster than the game on the Enclave’s crafting screen. This resulted in unique combinations, such as auto rifles firing a dozen pellets per trigger pull and the chance for infinite ammo with the Mulligan perk.
Bungie addressed the issue by disabling crafted weapons and resetting those that had different combinations. Although there was a delay in implementing the fixes, the glitch eventually disappeared.
This is not the first time Bungie has acknowledged fun bugs with emblems. In the past, glitches with Prometheus Lens and Lord of Wolves led to special emblems being created. Additionally, Season of Plunder featured a Telesto-inspired emblem, although the unique behavior of the weapon was intentionally planned by Bungie.
The yet-unnamed Season 23 of Destiny 2 is set to release on November 28th, giving players over a month to wait before they can proudly display the emblem. It serves as a nostalgic reminder of the time when weapons fired like shotguns and the Mulligan perk was highly sought after.
