AMD GPU Driver Update Causes VAC Bans in CS2

Tim Price

Players who recently updated their AMD GPU drivers and played Counter-Strike 2 may have found themselves facing an unexpected problem—a Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) ban. After updating to the latest driver release on October 12, users reported receiving VAC bans in CS2 for no apparent reason.

The issue seems to be related to the addition of the Anti-Lag+ feature in the driver update. This feature aims to reduce input-to-response latency and provide a more responsive gameplay experience for Radeon users. However, VAC mistakenly identifies the DLL rerouting and frame alignment used by Anti-Lag+ as cheating software, resulting in a ban.

Valve has acknowledged the issue and warned AMD users not to enable Anti-Lag+ in CS2. They have also stated that they will work on identifying and resolving any accidental VAC triggers once AMD releases an update to fix the issue.

In the meantime, AMD users can manually disable Anti-Lag+ in the AMD Radeon Software panel. This can be done by finding CS2 in the Radeon Settings menu or using the AMD game overlay shortcut Alt+L.

Some affected players have expressed frustration with the false bans and the lack of clarity from Steam Support. However, others have reported improved FPS and performance with Radeon cards after the driver update.

If you have been VAC banned due to this issue, Valve advises reaching out to Steam Support and submitting a ticket.

Update: AMD has acknowledged the issue and is working with Valve to address it. They have advised Radeon users to disable Anti-Lag+ in CS2 to avoid bans.
