South America’s Teams Face Elimination at TI12

The first phase of Dota 2’s The International 2023 has concluded, and South America’s teams are on the brink of elimination. Out of the four representatives from the region, only two have managed to survive, while the rest have been sent home.

SA Teams Struggle at TI12

South America has had a disappointing performance at TI12 so far. All four teams from the region either failed to advance or ended up at the bottom of their respective groups. This has left SA fans searching for answers as to why their teams have underperformed.

Early Eliminations

Thunder Awaken was the first team to be eliminated from TI12, finishing with the worst record in the group stage at 1-7. This is a significant decline from their fifth-place finish at TI11 last year. However, it’s important to note that Thunder Awaken had a completely new roster this year, qualifying for the event through regional qualifiers.

beastcoast’s Disappointing Exit

One of the most surprising early eliminations from SA is beastcoast. They entered TI12 with high hopes and a revamped lineup but failed to win a single series. This is their worst placement since their breakthrough performance at TI10. They were eliminated after a 0-2 loss to Gaimin Gladiators.

EG and Keyd Stars Survive

Evil Geniuses narrowly avoided elimination by defeating SMG in a tiebreaker round. Keyd Stars, the other SA team, also managed to survive thanks to Talon Esports’ victory over Quest. Both teams will now face tough opponents in the seeding round for the playoffs.

SMG and Quest’s First TI Experience

SMG and Quest made their first appearance at TI this year, but with different levels of experience. SMG had a lineup with players who had a combined nine TI appearances, including a TI7 champion. However, they couldn’t make it past the group stage. Quest, on the other hand, had no players with any TI experience but showed confidence in challenging anyone. They had a 2-2 record on day one before being eliminated by Tundra and Talon.

Remaining SA Teams Face Tough Challenges

EG will face Team Liquid, and Keyd Stars will go up against LGD Gaming in the seeding round for the playoffs. Tundra, the reigning TI champions, selected nouns as their opponents. The top seed, Team Spirit, had a dominant showing in the group stage and is already locked into the playoffs.

Phase Two and Playoffs

The second phase of The International begins with Team Spirit facing Shopify and LGD taking on Keyd Stars. These matches will determine the seeding for the playoffs, which will start on October 22.
