Vietnamese team GAM Esports has advanced to the Swiss stage of the League of Legends World Championships after defeating Team Whales 3-1 in the Play-In stage. This victory secures GAM Esports’ spot in the main event, marking their third appearance at Worlds.
GAM Esports initially fell into the Play-In group lower bracket after losing to LOUD from Brazil on the first day. However, they fought their way back by defeating Movistar R7 and seeking revenge against LOUD. This set up a crucial match against Team Whales.
Team Whales, making their debut at the tournament, had performed well in Group B with wins over BDS and CTBC Flying Oyster. But GAM Esports proved to be too strong for the young team.
In the series against Team Whales, GAM Esports dominated with Kati’s exceptional performance on Syndra. Although Team Whales managed to win one game convincingly, GAM Esports quickly regained control and secured their place in the Swiss stage.
Kati’s standout performance came in the final game, where he showcased his skills on Orianna with five kills and 17 assists. His impressive performance earned him the match MVP title and led GAM Esports back to the Worlds main event.
GAM Esports previously qualified for the Worlds main event in 2022 through VCS’ automatic invite. In both 2019 and 2022, they were eliminated early in the tournament. However, with the introduction of the Swiss stage format this year, GAM Esports aims to go further and make a stronger impact.
In the main event, GAM Esports will join Dplus KIA from LCK and Weibo Gaming from LPL in the fourth pool for the draw. The final Play-In qualifier between PSG Talon and Team BDS will determine the 16th and last team to join the main event.
The League of Legends World Championships Play-Ins will conclude with the best-of-five match between PSG Talon and Team BDS, deciding the final team to advance to the main event.
