Pokémon Go has finally added the highly anticipated Party Play feature, allowing friends to join exciting shared in-game experiences. However, players have discovered that each session is limited to just one hour, leaving many questioning the reasoning behind this decision.
A Reddit post by u/JesusUnlimited on October 16 shared a screenshot highlighting the one-hour time limit for parties. Players are able to start a new Party Play session immediately after one ends, which has left the community puzzled as to why Niantic implemented such a restriction.
While some players jokingly suggested that Niantic’s parties must not be enjoyable if they only last an hour, others tried to find some logic behind the decision. One player speculated that the time limitation could prevent accidental broadcasting of location information to strangers, as players might forget to switch off or leave their Party Play sessions.
Another user mentioned the importance of performance optimization, suggesting that a time limit helps prevent the game from allocating unnecessary memory to store party information when players forget to leave a session.
However, players also pointed out a significant issue with the time limitation. If a player completes a task within the allotted time but fails to finish the next task before the party ends, their progress is reset. This means that any progress made towards a task will be lost if the party ends before completion.
Despite the apparent design problem with the time limitation, it is unlikely that Niantic will revise it in the near future.
