Cheating in VALORANT: What to Do if You Have a Cheater on Your Team

Tim Price

Dealing with cheaters in VALORANT can be frustrating, but players agree that it’s best to continue playing your ranked games if you find yourself with a cheater on your team. While cheating is a significant problem in the game, it’s not your responsibility to punish cheaters by surrendering or intentionally throwing the game. Instead, report the cheater and let Riot Games handle the situation.

In a recent Reddit thread, a player asked the community what they would do if they suspected a teammate of cheating in a ranked game. The majority of responses agreed that reporting the cheater and continuing to play was the right course of action. It’s important to remember that being randomly placed on a team with a cheater is not your fault, unless you are partied up with them.

Purposely losing games to teach cheaters a lesson would only harm yourself in the long run. Not only would you lose ranking points, but you could also risk being reported for throwing the game. Many players work hard to climb the ranks, and it’s not worth jeopardizing your progress for the sake of punishing cheaters.

Instead, it’s best to let nature take its course. Unfortunate situations, such as having an AFK teammate in another game, can balance out the advantage of having a cheater on your team. Sometimes luck works in your favor, and other times it works against you. In the end, things should even out, unless you’re exceptionally unlucky.

Ultimately, it is Riot Games’ responsibility to catch and punish cheaters, as they violate the competitive integrity of the game. If you happen to win a game because one of your random teammates was cheating, don’t feel guilty. It’s not your fault, and the game’s matchmaking system should eventually balance things out.
