Rise of the Floodborn: A Meta Shift in Disney Lorcana

Derek Morgan

The recent PPG MiamiCon TCG event showcased the largest The First Chapter tournament to date, leaving players eagerly anticipating the release of Rise of the Floodborn next month. With over 250 Disney Lorcana players in attendance, the meta was dominated by variants of the powerful Amber/Steel deck.

As players prepared for the upcoming expansion, they showcased their best Constructed decks at the MiamiCon TCG event. The Amber/Steel deck had been gaining popularity at local game store events, along with other strong builds like Ruby/Amethyst, Sapphire/Emerald, and Sapphire/Amber. The strength of the Amber/Steel deck was evident throughout the tournament.

Out of the top 16 decks, an impressive nine were Amber/Steel variants. In the top eight, five of the decks were Amber/Steel, with only Ruby/Amethyst Control coming close to competing.

The first-place finisher, Jose Feliciano, piloted an Amber/Steel deck that included three copies of the powerful Hades, Lord of the Underworld. This card allows players to bring back Characters from their discard pile, making it a perfect fit for the deck. Other popular choices for reanimation included Ariel, Spectacular Singer, Beast, Rapunzel, Stitch, and Tinker Bell.

Gabriel Torres, who secured second place, also utilized an Amber/Steel deck but added Tinker Bell, Tiny Tactician for card advantage and synergy with Tinker Bell, Giant Fairy. Alexander Gonzalez, who placed eighth, incorporated tech choices like Part of Your World and Aladdin, Cornered Swordsman.

The top-performing Ruby/Amethyst deck, piloted by Rene Tetuanui, focused on synergies between Magic Broom and Micky Mouse, Wayward Sorcerer. Magic Broom allowed for reanimation of Characters from any discard pile, shuffling them back into the player’s deck.

The meta is expected to undergo significant changes with the release of Rise of the Floodborn next month. Players can look forward to exploring new strategies and adapting their decks accordingly. The expansion will be available on November 17 through local game stores, with an official retailer launch on December 1.
