Ninjas in Pyjamas has made a change to its CS2 lineup, bringing back rifler Patrick “es3tag” Hansen. The Danish player will replace former in-game leader Hampus Poser, who had only been in charge of the team for four months in his second stint with NiP. Es3tag has been on the bench since December 2022 and has not played a professional CS2 match, except for a temporary replacement role in FaZe Clan earlier this year.
NiP announced the roster change on Twitter, welcoming es3tag back to the team and thanking hampus for his efforts. The decision to remove hampus comes shortly after NiP hired veteran coach Björn “THREAT” Pers as the general manager of the CS2 team. THREAT had expressed concerns about a lack of leadership and role-related issues within the team.
This is the second roster change for NiP in CS2, as they previously parted ways with Finnish IGL Aleksib after the BLAST Paris Major. They then gave hampus another chance as the captain, but the team’s performance did not improve. They had disappointing results in IEM Cologne and failed to qualify for the playoffs of ESL Pro League season 18.
It is unclear if es3tag will take on the role of captain in CS2 or if NiP will make further changes to the lineup to accommodate a new in-game leader. The Swedish-Danish team is set to debut in CS2 against Fnatic at Roobet Cup 2023 on October 26.
