A new skin is set to join League of Legends, causing a divide among fans of a particular mid lane champion. The upcoming skin, called Breakout True Damage Ekko, is part of the HEARTSTEEL skin collection that celebrates the annual World Championship. However, this skin has sparked controversy due to its release as a Mythic Variant, following the previous controversial release of Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin.
Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends, introduced the concept of Mythic Variants as a way to provide a “deeper thematic lens” to existing Legendary skins. These skins cannot be directly purchased or obtained through skin shards, chests, capsules, or grab bags. Instead, players have a very small chance of obtaining them from event capsules or guaranteed after opening 30 capsules, which costs nearly $200.
In response to player feedback on Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin, Riot 100 pc nuggets, the product lead for the skins team, acknowledged that the skin fell short of expectations in terms of differentiation from the original. As a result, more time and effort were put into creating Breakout True Damage Ekko. This Mythic Variant features updated visual effects, including dark blue and golden accents, as well as changes to recall and sound effects to align with the hip hop/piano theme.
Players who purchase event capsules will receive bonus items based on the number of capsules they have purchased, including Mythic Essence. Additionally, music grab bags containing skins inspired by League’s musical groups will be available after opening specific amounts of capsules.
Breakout True Damage Ekko is expected to be available for testing on League’s PBE (Public Beta Environment) in the coming days. While an official release date has not been announced, players can anticipate its arrival alongside the HEARTSTEEL skins with Patch 13.22 on November 8.
