Blizzard recently introduced a reworked kit for Sombra in Overwatch 2, but her newest ability has already sparked controversy among players. The ability, called Virus, has drawn the ire of many due to its annoying nature.
Fitzy, a well-known Overwatch content creator and expert on Sombra, has been testing the new kit extensively. In his weekly highlight reel on YouTube, Fitzy showcased just how frustrating Virus can be to play against. He shared numerous clips of him getting kills with Sombra’s new damage-over-time ability, some of which were even from beyond the grave.
While the video includes various other highlights unrelated to Virus, its opening sequence perfectly captures the essence of the ability’s annoyance. Fitzy attempted to spawn camp a Mei player on the Gardens control point of the map Oasis. Despite being eliminated relatively quickly by the Mei, Fitzy had already infected them with Virus. As the Mei player ran towards the fight, they unknowingly succumbed to the damage-over-time effect, leading to their demise. Fitzy humorously referred to this as “instant karma.”
Fitzy’s video, titled “Virus is such a Troll,” provides a 10-minute compilation of Sombra’s Virus ability in action. It showcases the frustration it can cause opponents and highlights its effectiveness in securing kills.
Overall, Sombra’s new ability has received mixed reactions from the Overwatch community. While some players appreciate the added depth it brings to her kit, others find it excessively annoying to play against. Only time will tell if Blizzard will make any adjustments based on player feedback.
