A glitch in Spider-Man 2 has allowed gamers to explore underneath the map, uncovering some hidden details from the main story, including what happened to Rhino.
By swinging to a specific location and climbing through a pipeline, players can access a secret area that was not meant to be discovered. In this area, using photo mode, gamers have found an arena with Rhino’s head mounted on the wall. Additionally, untextured versions of Vulture and Scorpion can be seen beside him. It appears that Insomniac, the game’s developer, had scrapped this idea before release.
It is likely that this room would have been used to showcase the deaths of these supervillains at the hands of Kraven the Hunter, one of the main antagonists in the Spider-Man 2 story. Kraven’s mission was to find a worthy challenger to fight, and it seems that multiple characters, including Rhino, failed his tests.
Other supervillains, such as Scorpion and Electro, also met their demise at the hands of Kraven. These deaths were either shown in cutscenes or hinted at through notable equipment found in Kraven’s possession.
While this glitch provides interesting additional lore, other bugs in Spider-Man 2 have been causing more havoc in New York City. For example, some players were transformed into cubes, but this glitch was easily fixed by restarting the game. Fortunately, this newer glitch does not impact gameplay in the same way.
It seems unlikely that Rhino will make an appearance in any future Insomniac sequels. However, there may be more information revealed in upcoming DLCs.
