In response to the mixed reception of Lords of the Fallen, the developers are working tirelessly to improve the game with a series of patches. The latest update, known as the Pumpkin Patch, introduces a Halloween-themed quest and addresses various issues that players have been facing.
The Pumpkin Patch update, version 1.1.249, will be available from 4pm CT today, October 26, 2023. Players can participate in a new seasonal quest to unlock an exclusive helm called the Pumpskin Mask. Additionally, the game’s location, Mournstead, has been adorned with spooky seasonal cosmetics to enhance the Halloween atmosphere.
Alongside the Halloween content, the Pumpkin Patch update brings significant changes to the New Game Plus mode in Lords of the Fallen. Previously, all the Vestiges (similar to bonfires in Dark Souls) were broken in New Game Plus, limiting players to one checkpoint at a time and restricting fast travel to Skyrest Bridge only. However, the new update introduces a “tiered NG+ system” that reduces the number of Vestiges available in each subsequent cycle. This makes the initial experience of New Game Plus less punishing and more enjoyable for players.
Furthermore, the Pumpkin Patch update restores full crossplay functionality between PC and consoles. Crossplay was temporarily disabled due to compatibility issues causing severe lag, but the developers have resolved these problems and players can now enjoy playing together across different platforms.
The update also addresses concerns raised by the community regarding enemy density in certain areas of the game. Players complained about excessive numbers of enemies, particularly ambushes from dogs and ranged snipers, as well as enemies relentlessly pursuing fleeing players. The new patch reduces enemy density in several areas, aiming to create a smoother difficulty curve and a less frustrating gameplay experience.
With these ongoing improvements, the future looks promising for Lords of the Fallen, and the developers’ dedication to fixing the game is commendable. As an additional incentive, the developers are inviting players to submit artwork from the game’s 3D photo mode, with the chance for the winning entries to be displayed on the Nasdaq building in Times Square for two weeks.
