Microsoft is set to reorganize the leadership team of Xbox, with reports indicating that the company will appoint its first-ever woman president. Sarah Bond, former corporate vice president of Xbox, is said to be taking on this historic role.
According to a memo from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond will lead as the president of Xbox, overseeing various departments including Devices, Player & Creator Experiences, Platform Engineering, Strategy, Business Planning, Data & Analytics, and Business Development. This move aims to bring together the teams responsible for managing the current platform and building the platform of the future.
If these reports are accurate, Sarah Bond’s appointment will mark the first time a woman has held the position of president in any of the big three console companies, which include Sony (PlayStation) and Nintendo. As president, Bond will be responsible for managing all aspects of Xbox, including hardware and software.
The memo also mentioned other key figures who will join Bond in leading Xbox. Matt Booty, now the president of Game Content and Studios at Microsoft, will oversee Xbox game studios ZeniMax and Bethesda. The memo clarified that ZeniMax will continue to operate as a limited integration entity under the leadership of Jamie Leder, President and CEO, reporting to Matt.
Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision Blizzard, will remain in his position until the end of 2023, as stated in the memo. Additional changes within Xbox were outlined in an internal company memo, including the promotion of Takeshi Numoto to chief marketing officer and Yusuf Mehdi to consumer chief marketing officer.
