One-way smokes in VALORANT are usually not a cause for concern. They can be countered with utilities or by avoiding them altogether. However, Iso, the Chinese contract killer in VALORANT, has a unique ability that creates powerful one-way smokes that can deflect bullets. While this may seem game-breaking, it turns out that Iso’s Contingency can create some nasty one-way smokes too.
During my early access testing of Iso, I discovered a potent one-way smoke by sending his Contingency ability down Bind’s B Long. By placing it close to the left wall, it blocks the line of sight for anyone pushing through the lane, allowing you to secure easy kills. Here’s a tutorial on how to do it:
As long as you have a teammate covering you or providing support with utility, you can effectively utilize this one-way smoke in your ranked Bind games. Just be cautious of enemies swinging right to avoid the one-way smoke.
While the possibility of Iso’s Contingency creating one-way smokes is exciting, there is a high chance that this is an unintentional feature and may be fixed in the official release. It appears that Iso’s Contingency incorrectly recognizes a small section above Bind’s B Long wall as ground level, resulting in this unique occurrence. The ability functions normally and falls to the ground for all other nearby walls, so it seems inconsistent. However, it’s possible that these one-way smokes could be a unique aspect of Iso’s kit.
I also discovered a few momentary one-way smokes for other spots by slightly hanging the wall off sharp edges, but they were not as powerful as the one in Bind’s B Long. Here’s an example of a one-way smoke I found for Ascent’s Defender Spawn. While it can allow you to pick off enemies pushing into spawn, it may not always provide significant value unless enemies foolishly challenge it:
It wouldn’t be surprising if Riot removes the Bind B Long one-way smoke for Iso’s Contingency in a future VALORANT patch. But until then, feel free to take advantage of it as much as you want.
