Dota 2 Talent’s Controversial Voice Line Submissions at The International

Tim Price

Dota 2 talents attending The International have the opportunity to immortalize themselves in the game with permanent voice lines. However, some submissions have gone too far, like Shannon “SUNSfan” Scotten’s second attempt, which was rejected by Valve because it was recorded while he was urinating.

SUNSfan’s initial submission included an approved voice line and a burp, but only the approved one made it into the game. When Valve offered a second chance to talents whose submissions were rejected, SUNSfan took advantage of the opportunity.

Due to a lack of communication from Valve, SUNSfan believed that talents would only have one voice line in the game, as in previous years. So, he strategically submitted a voice line he knew would be rejected, along with a belch, in order to increase his chances of getting his first voice line accepted.

SUNSfan’s final attempt was a voice line saying “PAUSE PLEASE,” accompanied by a sound effect of him urinating. He admitted to recording the sound while on the toilet, ensuring the best audio quality by getting as close to the bowl as possible. He then added the “PAUSE PLEASE” line on his computer, creating the perfect combination.

In addition to his controversial submission, SUNSfan also submitted two more voice lines that he believed were not offensive and could have been accepted under normal circumstances. However, he suspects that Valve may have been offended by the peeing sound, leading them to reject all of his secondary submissions.

As a result, SUNSfan is now the only talent in the game with just one voice line, except for David “GoDz” Parker, who didn’t submit anything. This situation has affected SUNSfan’s larger supporter bundle, potentially impacting its sales numbers as it lacks bonus content.
