The recent Phasmophobia update on October 26th brings a revamped version of the Maple Lodge Campsite map, just in time for Halloween. While some players have embraced the changes, others have expressed mixed feelings about the new layout.
The community’s response to the update has been somewhat divided, with players taking to Reddit to share their thoughts. One player described the new map as feeling like a maze, compared to the previous open-plan layout they were accustomed to. They even went as far as saying they “despise” the changes.
The original map presented its own challenges, as hunts were difficult due to the lack of objects and buildings to hide behind. Breaking line of sight from the ghost was a struggle, often requiring players to outrun or loop around them. The addition of wooden logs and a reception block has made the map feel more compact, and existing objects like the campfire and tents have been rearranged, creating a new learning experience.
Some players have found the new layout confusing, feeling like they’re “lost in the backrooms.” Others prefer the old campsite aesthetic but acknowledge that the changes enhance gameplay and create a better overall experience.
Aside from the Maple Lodge Campsite, Phasmophobia offers larger map options such as the Prison, High School, and Sunny Meadows Mental Institution. The Asylum map, which has been removed, and the High School can sometimes feel overwhelming due to the sheer number of rooms to explore.
Despite the mixed reception, the general consensus is that the update has opened up new gameplay opportunities, just in time for Halloween. Players are excited to dive into the game and hunt down potion ingredients for the holiday event.
