Riot Games recently reintroduced the highly anticipated Nexus Blitz game mode with League of Legends Patch 13.21 on October 25th. However, fans are expressing their dissatisfaction with how the mode has turned out this time around.
After thoroughly exploring the returning Nexus Blitz mode for a few days, League players have reached a consensus that it is “unfun and unbalanced.” A Reddit user named u/RaiN_Meyk3r perfectly summarized everyone’s sentiment in an October 29th post.
According to the player, there is no enjoyment in winning or losing because the events within the mode are rigged in favor of one team or the other. They pointed out issues such as Loot Teemo constantly staying on one side of the map, Soraka’s AI behaving recklessly for one team while being cautious for the other, and the flaming circle ending in the enemy team’s jungle early in the game, where players have to deal with a powerful gargoyle with excessive damage, knockbacks, and health.
Essentially, falling behind in Nexus Blitz makes it nearly impossible to stop the enemy team’s snowball and make a comeback. The mini-games within the mode are designed to favor the winning team, rather than providing an opportunity for the losing team to turn the tide. This imbalance takes away the significance of winning or losing an event and ultimately makes the mode unfun. Additionally, players feel compelled to adhere to various Nexus Blitz tier lists solely for the sake of winning, rather than enjoying the game.
As someone who has played all three versions of Nexus Blitz, I can attest to its flaws. The events lack sufficient balance, the rewards for winning an event are excessive, and the pressure to play meta champions instead of personal favorites diminishes the fun factor. It would have been beneficial for Riot to reevaluate and refine this mode before releasing it on live servers once again.
