Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) have reportedly found their new leader in Counter-Strike 2 with the signing of experienced in-game leader Alejandro “alex” Masanet. The Spanish player is set to join NiP before his contract with Movistar Riders expires at the end of the year. The deal between the two parties has been pushed forward, and all that remains is the final signatures.
NiP has been making changes to their roster in recent months due to poor results, and they hope that alex’s addition will turn things around. Known for his success with Movistar Riders, alex’s leadership skills caught the attention of NiP. This will be the first time he leads a team in English throughout his Counter-Strike career.
Under alex’s captaincy, Movistar Riders reached the playoff stage of IEM Cologne 2022, where they were eliminated by tournament champions FaZe Clan in the semifinals. Movistar Riders has participated in several prestigious tournaments since alex joined the team in 2017, achieving varying levels of success.
In NiP, Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin and Hampus “hampus” Poser were the most recent players to be replaced in the roster shakeup. Patrick “es3tag” Hansen temporarily took over as the team searched for a new IGL but will likely return to his previous roles.
alex’s move follows Alvaro “SunPayus” Garcia’s successful transfer to ENCE in 2022. If the reported signing goes through, alex will become the second Spaniard to join a purely international roster within the top 30 of the HLTV rankings.
The Spanish IGL is expected to join the NiP roster before November 22, just in time for the team’s BLAST Premier Fall Final campaign in Copenhagen.
