Unveiling the Most Anticipated Pokémon TCG Cards: Paradox Rift

Xavier Ward

The Pokémon TCG is releasing its highly anticipated Scarlet and Violet cards just in time for the holidays with the launch of Paradox Rift on Nov. 3. We were lucky enough to get our hands on a full booster box early and discovered some incredible pulls while exploring the treasures of Aera Zero.

Following the success of Pokémon 151, a special set that focused on the original lineup of Pokémon from Red, Green, and Blue, Paradox Rift introduces a range of new Pokémon to the TCG. This includes the exclusive Paradox Pokémon found only in Area Zero, as well as exciting Pokémon ex like the Fighting Tera Type Hoopa ex and Water Tera Type Garchomp ex.

Unlike the previous sets, Paradox Rift does not revolve around a single card, as there is no Charizard to chase this time. Instead, the real prizes are the Special Illustration Rare variants of Paradox Pokémon such as Roaring Moon and Iron Valiant, along with some beloved Trainer cards.

Having had decent luck with the 151 and Obsidian Flames sets, I was thrilled to find that this early box of 36 packs from The Pokémon Company also yielded some fantastic results, even though I didn’t reach the deepest corners of the Great Crater of Paldea.

Our Best Pulls from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Paradox Rift

In the first three packs, I stumbled upon my best card from this Paradox Rift box—a Special Illustration Rare Tulip. This card, along with Mela and Rika, is one of the top chase cards in the set. However, the SIRs for Professor Sada’s Vitality and Professor Turo’s Scenario are equally impressive.

The IR and SIR cards in this set are absolutely stunning, featuring incredible Pokémon like Loudred, Minior, and Yveltal, among others. Personally, I have a soft spot for these Legendaries in my favorite rarity. Additionally, I managed to pull several other Paradox Pokémon in their common and regular holo variants, which is a nice bonus for collectors.

Paradox Rift also offers a variety of highly sought-after Double Rare ex cards, including Roaring Moon, Gholdengo, and Garchomp. These cards are either popular Pokémon that fans are eager to obtain or have potential in competitive play.

While I did manage to pull a few of these cards, I unfortunately missed out on the SIR chasers for Roaring Moon ex and Gholdengo ex, which are likely to be the most coveted pulls from this set.

The rest of my pulls were somewhat underwhelming, with a few additional Pokémon ex like Hoopa and Bombirdier. The standout cards from my final packs were a full art Armarouge ex, featuring a captivating flame pattern, and a full art Parasol Lady.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with my pulls and thoroughly impressed with Paradox Rift compared to the previous SV sets. I’m excited to get my hands on other Illustration Rares like Steelix, Joltik, Snorunt, and Mantyke, as well as some SIRs like Tapu Koko ex when the full set releases on Nov. 3.
