A new glitch in Super Mario Bros. has been discovered, allowing players to skip entire worlds and fight Bowser early. This glitch has been showcased in a video uploaded by YouTuber Icay on Oct. 30. By triggering the glitch, one player takes control of the camera while the other player spawns outside the overworld bounds, enabling them to walk outside the intended path and bypass multiple levels. The glitch can be activated by re-selecting characters from the game’s menu.
The glitch can be triggered near the Badge House in Pipe-Rock Plateau, where the second player spawns slightly above the path and can proceed to Petal Isles. From there, another glitch can be triggered to reach Petal Island. Similar exploits can be performed in various locations throughout the game, allowing players to skip significant portions of the game and face Bowser earlier than intended. However, players can still complete the skipped levels after finishing the main game.
While Nintendo strives to release games in their best possible states, glitches like these are not uncommon and are typically patched quickly. Nevertheless, even if the glitch remains unpatched, it requires deliberate actions from players to trigger it and does not significantly impact gameplay. We have reached out to Nintendo for comment on this recent exploit.
Until a patch is released by Nintendo, speedrunners are likely to utilize this glitch to expedite their completion time and bypass large sections of Mario Wonder.
