Embark Studios has released a significant patch for THE FINALS open beta, focusing on improving anti-cheat systems, fixing matchmaking problems, and addressing various UI and gameplay issues. The update, labeled 0.4.0, aims to strengthen the identification of unfair play through enhanced detection thresholds in the internal systems.
One of the main concerns raised by players during the open beta was rampant cheating, which led to doubts about the effectiveness of Embark’s anti-cheat solutions. However, the developers have taken steps to address these concerns by implementing overall improvements to the anti-cheat systems. While it remains to be seen how effective these enhancements are, the fact that the developers are actively working on the issue is reassuring.
The patch also resolves the backfilling problem in matchmaking, which previously caused teams to be at a disadvantage if a player left the game. This issue has been fixed, ensuring that leavers no longer ruin the game for their teammates. Although there are currently no penalties for leaving unranked games, this fix should alleviate some of the concerns regarding player abandonment.
In terms of performance, the patch addresses crashes related to the blocked player list and reporting system. Additionally, it fixes a collision issue with Deployable Shields that caused the game to run slower. Players who experienced frequent crashes should check if these issues persist after the update.
The patch also includes several gameplay-tuning updates. For instance, a bug where Goo would sometimes become welded to fractured structures has been resolved. Timed destruction events have been added to Goo for better overall behavior. Furthermore, the ammo amount for the Glitch trap has been increased from one to two.
