Since the release of the Fortnite OG patch on November 3rd, it feels like we’ve been transported back to 2018 when the game was at its peak. And no one is riding this wave higher than Ninja on Twitch.
In 2018, Ninja was the top star on Twitch, but his viewership has since declined to an average of 15,000 to 25,000 viewers. However, with the return of the OG season in Fortnite, many old-school players are coming back, and Ninja is taking full advantage of it.
According to Sullygnome’s data, Ninja’s viewership peaked at just over 22,000 viewers between July and October. But as soon as the Fortnite OG patch went live, he reached over 124,000 viewers on Twitch. Currently, he still has around 80,000 concurrent spectators.
The OG season in Fortnite brings back the classic Chapter One map, including beloved locations like Junk Junction, Tomato Town, and Dusty Divot. It also reintroduces classic weapons such as the Assault Rifle and Pump Shotgun. Players were eagerly awaiting this update, and within just one and a half hours, Fortnite had a new all-time peak with 3,913,817 concurrent players.
It remains to be seen if Fortnite can retain these players in the long run, but for Ninja, this nostalgic patch sets a bright future. He has the potential to once again become one of the top five Twitch streamers by the end of 2023.
