An exciting announcement was made at BlizzCon 2023 for Overwatch 2 fans. The game will be revisiting Japan with a new map called Hanaoka, which is located right next to the beloved Hanamura map from the first game. But that’s not all – Hanaoka will also introduce a brand new game mode called Clash Mode.
Previously, Hanamura was only available in Arcade Mode or custom games, as the Assault game mode (also known as 2CP) was left behind in the prequel. However, with Hanaoka, players will now have the chance to experience the essence of Hanamura in a new and exciting way. In fact, the buildings from Hanamura can even be seen in the background of the Hanaoka map.
Hanaoka, which means “Flower Hill” in Japanese, stays true to the architecture and aesthetic of Hanamura. Cherry blossom trees are abundant, creating a nostalgic atmosphere for players. But it’s not just about the visuals – the new Clash Mode brings back capture points, adding a fresh twist to the gameplay.
In Clash Mode, there are five capture points arranged in a straight line across the map, with identical points on both sides. It’s like King of The Hill, but multiplied by five. At the start of the match, both teams will compete for the middle capture point. By standing uncontested in the center, a team can claim the point as their own. Once the initial point is captured, the next capture point for the losing team becomes available, and so on.
The objective is simple: one team must capture all five points or achieve the maximum score to win. It’s a game of strategy and coordination, where teams must decide which points to prioritize and when to make their move.
With the upcoming release of new heroes like Mauga and the return of Hanamura, Overwatch players have a lot to look forward to. And who knows, maybe other retired Assault maps like Temple of Anubis and Volskaya Industries will make a comeback in the future. The world of Overwatch is constantly evolving, and the possibilities are endless.
