Accidental Discovery: FaZe Clan’s rain Unveils New Ancient Smoke in Longest CS2 Match Ever

If you delve into history, you’ll be amazed at the numerous life-altering discoveries that have been made by chance. One such discovery was contributed by FaZe Clan’s rain during the longest CS2 match ever played. While attempting a simple smoke throw, rain unintentionally stumbled upon an impressive new smoke on the map Ancient.

Ancient is no longer a new map, and even with the release of CS2, we already know most of what there is to discover about it. It’s highly unlikely to invent an effective new smoke, which is why it took rain’s mistake to uncover this cool new Ancient smoke.

During the third round of FaZe’s match against Ninjas in Pyjamas at the CS Asia Championships on November 9, rain set himself up for a smoke towards CT, a throw he has likely executed countless times. However, instead of hitting the side of the temple and falling down into CT as intended, rain’s smoke accidentally clipped off the top edge of the building and landed in the lower section of the temple. Although not what rain had planned, it turned out to be a better outcome than the smoke landing on top of the temple.

As cool as this accidental smoke is, it’s understandable why it hasn’t gained popularity yet, and why rain didn’t repeat it after that one round. Its usefulness is quite limited, if it even exists. The temple connects CT spawn to the A bomb site, and it’s highly unlikely that any Counter-Terrorist would be significantly affected by this smoke. Nevertheless, FaZe Clan did win the round in which rain threw this temple smoke, so who knows, it might become the new meta—confusing the enemy with smokes in unexpected spots.

Rain’s accidental discovery wasn’t the most noteworthy aspect of the FaZe vs. Ninjas in Pyjamas matchup. Their 28-25 victory made CS2 history by becoming the longest match ever played on LAN since Counter-Strike esports transitioned to Valve’s new game.

Despite CS2’s competitive history only spanning a month and a half at present, this record is incredibly difficult to surpass with the new MR12 system. It’s highly likely that this Ancient duel will remain in the record books for a long time, both for its duration and the accidental discovery of the coolest yet useless smoke ever.
