Adam’s Darius Dominates Team Whales in Worlds 2023 Play-In Stage

Xavier Ward

European League of Legends fans know that Team BDS top laner Adam is a force to be reckoned with on Darius. In their first game at Worlds 2023, Team Whales found out the hard way as Adam showcased his skills on the Hand of Noxus.

Just 10 minutes into the game, Team Whales attempted to gank Adam’s Darius with three players. Despite being low on mana, Adam fought back and with the help of his jungler Sheo, he turned the tables on his opponents. Using his level advantage, Adam took down Whales’ top laner Sparda and jungler Bean, who were playing Renekton and Viego.

Adam’s Decimate (Q) ability dealt significant damage to the gankers, and with the crowd control from his teammate playing Rell, he was able to secure the kills. Although Adam’s health was low, Whales’ support Bie appeared in the top lane to finish him off. However, Adam had already started another cast of Decimate, which allowed him to heal through the skirmish. He continued to unleash his abilities, securing more kills and establishing his dominance in the laning phase.

By the end of the fight, Adam was 5/0/1, while Sparda was left with a dismal score of 0/4/0. Team BDS went on to win the first game of the series convincingly, with Adam finishing with a peak scoreline of 8/0/4. Whales learned their lesson and banned Darius in the following games, ultimately winning the series.

Darius is undeniably Adam’s signature champion. Throughout his career, Adam has played Darius in 23 games, boasting a record of 17-6. This makes Darius his third-most-played champion, and he has more professional experience with Darius than any other major region player.

Darius is not a common pick in the pro scene, appearing in only 38 major region games since 2021. However, nearly half of those games belong to Adam. After witnessing Adam’s exceptional performance on Darius, it begs the question of when we will see more top laners worldwide picking up this champion in professional play.

Team BDS will face DetonatioN FocusMe in a must-win losers bracket series on Friday, Oct. 13 as they continue their journey at Worlds.
