Months after the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, data miners have uncovered unused voice lines, dialogue trees, and cutscenes from the game. Among these discoveries is an alternate ending for the Dark Urge background that is darker and more disturbing than the final cut.
The data miner shared the dialogue for this ending on X (formerly Twitter) on November 17th. The dialogue paints a gruesome picture of the consequences of succumbing to the Dark Urge. Here is an excerpt of the reconstructed dialogue:
Narrator: You cannot remember what happened last night. In the moment of passion, your mind was consumed by thoughts of Bhaal. The gnoll’s body became an altar where you worshipped.
Gnoll: Stop talking. Need sleep. Done with you.
Narrator: Bhaal demands the birth of a horde. Even if you were to mate with fifty creatures each night, it would never be enough.
Player: I am not a slave to nature. Our children will be beautiful.
Gnoll: Rrrrrh. Leave. Or face my claws.
Narrator: And so you wander alone into the putrid wasteland, seeking the next creature that will accept your diseased embrace. What other abominations will you indulge in? Displacer beasts? Worgs? Carrion-crawlers? This is how you will spend the rest of your days, driven by Father’s disappointment.
It is clear that this ending portrays a grim fate for the player character, as they are forced to create more Bhaalspawn with various creatures across Faerun. This content was fully voiced and implemented in the game but was ultimately cut, likely due to its disturbing nature.
While some fans may have mixed reactions to this cut ending, it is understandable why it was not included in the final version of the game. However, there is potential for some of the cut content to be reintroduced in future updates or editions of Baldur’s Gate 3.
