BetBoom Team Makes History at Dota 2 The International 2023

Xavier Ward

On October 27, BetBoom Team achieved remarkable feats at Dota 2 The International 2023. They not only eliminated Virtus Pro from the competition but also set new records in the process. TORONTOTOKYO, one of BetBoom’s players, also made history with an extraordinary display.

In the second match of the series, TORONTOTOKYO’s Undying showcased incredible resilience by reaching an astounding 12,734 HP. This achievement surpassed the previous record set by BetBoom’s Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko with Centaur Warrunner, making it the highest HP ever recorded in a professional Dota 2 match.

TORONTOTOKYO’s massive Undying played a crucial role in BetBoom’s victory over Virtus Pro. Despite facing relentless damage from VP’s Muerta, who wielded a Divine Rapier, the record-breaking Undying’s massive health pool allowed the team’s core heroes to shine. BetBoom’s triumph secured them a top-six finish and their journey towards the Aegis of Champions now leads them to Azure Ray.

While BetBoom may not break another HP record, tanky heroes have been dominating at TI 2023. The current meta revolves around having at least one hero capable of soaking damage on the front line. Consequently, items like Heart of Tarrasque and Blade Mail have become highly popular at the tournament.

According to stats site Spectral, tanky supports such as Phoenix, Treant Protector, and Tusk have seen significant action at TI 2023, with most of them boasting win rates above 50 percent. Treant, in particular, stands out with an impressive 63 percent win rate over 24 picks at the time of writing.

As a result, many of these tanky supports are frequently banned in the early draft stages. However, due to the abundance of options available, one or two manage to slip through and make their presence felt on the TI stage.
